This is maybe question 70 of 100 that Jesus asked and we must answer! It is coming from Luke 18:7-87 And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? 8 I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”
This afternoon I was watching Rocky 4…. Have you ever seen it? Isn’t it one of the most moving movies you could watch! I mean Rocky watches his friend Apollo be “Put to death” by the Russian fighter… and it’s one of the most gut wrenching things to watch him take up the cause of defeating the one who killed his close friend. But he does and in the midst of snow and freezing cold weather outside of his comfort zone, Rocky still trains, just as hard as the other fighter who was on steroids and the end of the story is that Rocky goes and fights the man in Russian, overcoming all sorts of barriers, he wins the fight and everyone likes him at the end of the movie.
Don’t you love happy endings…
But what about when there are situations in life that don’t end like you think they should.. Life is not always exactly like what you see in the movies!
In this particular story we can see that Jesus is trying to drive home a particular point.. It’s called Perseverance, it’s called Endurance… Faith !!!!
True confidence, trust, and reliance upon the word of God!
There are a couple of points I want to make about the text then I will be out of your way!
The first observation about the widow is that she happens to live in a town where the judge has no fear of God and no fear of man.. She also happens to know the law and she knows what her rights are when she goes before him to ask for justice.. When we see that things are not going her way in the beginning as the story says.. She kept coming to this unjust judge.. seeing justice from an oppressor… Now, she had no problem with the law, she just wanted to get it to work on her behalf.. She knew the judge knew the law, he just had no regard for her situation.. he did not care in other words.. but Jesus begins to teach us that whether he cared or not, before long if everyone continues to see this woman coming to him all the time.. they would start making another reputation about him and he may have to deal with more than her in a long run, so in order to avoid further issues, he went and gave the lady justice…
Let me tell you that it was the fact that she kept coming that got her justice… If she would have taken the first NO as her final answer she would have never saw justice although it was rightly due her..
Jesus says that our heavenly Father is nothing like that as a matter of fact he is wiling to speedily give us what is right!
Will Jesus find faith in the earth.. Do you know what faith means? It means that you will continue, you will persevere because you have a specific end in mind … You intend on your request being answered no matter what the cost…
This is not the time to give up nor the place to quit.. Jesus taught this parable that we might pick up that sometimes our answers to prayer might not come after the first time we pray it, but we have to have enough faith to keep on coming until we see the result of the thing we have asked of Him!
